Facebook has discovered what it calls a “security issue” impacting almost 50 million accounts. If yours is one of them, you might have noticed that your accounts are requiring reauthorization inside Social News Desk and anywhere else you’ve used your Facebook credentials.
Of the breach, Facebook VP of Product Management, Guy Rosen wrote: “Our investigation is still in its early stages. But it’s clear that attackers exploited a vulnerability in Facebook’s code that impacted “View As”, a feature that lets people see what their own profile looks like to someone else. This allowed them to steal Facebook access tokens which they could then use to take over people’s accounts. Access tokens are the equivalent of digital keys that keep people logged in to Facebook so they don’t need to re-enter their password every time they use the app.”
These access tokens are what the SND Dashboard uses to keep your pages attached, and allow you to post. So if one of your Facebook Page admins was one of the 90 million people that had their tokens reset, then your page was likely detached. But don’t worry, it’s an easy fix…
How to Reattach Your Account to SND
To check the status of your page(s), and to reattach if necessary, here are the steps you need (to complete this you have to be a manager user inside the Dashboard):
- Log in to Facebook with the account you use to admin your page(s).
- Inside the SND Dashboard, click on “Manage Properties” at the bottom-left of your Dashboard, and navigate to the Social Media Accounts tab.
- Click on the account you wish to reattach, then click the wrench icon.
- SND and Facebook will attempt to restore the connection. If it’s successful, you’ll see a notice at the top letting you know.
