Attention Instagram creators: Updated image and video dimensions for 2025

Learn how you can create Instagram content that looks its best, whether in the feed or on your grid.

If you’ve been carefully curating your Instagram grid over the past few years, the Meta-owned social network has changed their preferred sizes and aspect ratios for content in 2025.

The 1:1 square image is a thing of the past, with the new, slightly vertical 4:5 image taking its place as the best way to get your content seen. In particular, carousel posts are best uploaded in a 4:5 aspect ratio. The preferred dimensions are 1080 pixels x 1350 pixels, with the grid showing the center 1012 x 1350 pixels in a 3:4 format.

Reels are still best uploaded in a 9:16 format (1080 x 1920 pixels), but the grid view will also appear in a 3:4 ratio. Be sure your most important content appears in the safe zone, which is 1080 x 1440 pixels in the center of your video.

Instagram Stories are also best created in a 9:16, 1080 x 1920 pixel format. The safe area for Stories is the center 1080 x 1610 pixel area, so be sure to design your Stories so any text or important content don’t appear at the extreme top or bottom of your video.

With this handy guide, Instagram Creators can continue to confidently build content that appears its best in the feed and on their grid.
