Bluesky and X add new vertical video feeds amid ‘short-form battle’

X and Bluesky have joined platforms like Meta and YouTube in adding dedicated vertical video feeds.

Let the battle begin: Both X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky launched their own vertical video feeds  within an hour apart. X and Bluesky have joined platforms like Meta and YouTube in adding dedicated vertical video feeds, underscoring the industry’s shift towards short-form, mobile-friendly content.

X announced the rollout of its vertical video feed to U.S. users, which can be found in a new “Video Tab.” It offers recommended videos across categories – including sports, entertainment, and news. The company says it’s all about providing an immersive viewing experience.

Shortly after, Bluesky unveiled its own custom feed for vertical videos. Users can now swipe through a personalized stream of video content, similar to the engaging format popularized by platforms like TikTok. This feature is accessible via the Search tab on Bluesky’s mobile app, where a “Trending Videos” section offers a curated selection of popular videos. Users can pin this feed to their home screen or add it to their list of custom feeds.

We had to get in on the video action too — Bluesky now has custom feeds for video!Like any other feed, you can choose to pin these or not. Bluesky is yours to customize.

These launches highlight the intensifying competition among social platforms to capture the growing audience for short-form video content. As TikTok’s future in the U.S. remains uncertain, platforms like X and Bluesky are trying to attract users who want to view videos elsewhere.

By introducing these dedicated video feeds, both X and Bluesky aim to enhance user engagement and reinforce their commitment to providing customizable, user-centric social media experiences.
