Meta Advises Including Links in Post Comments

Meta has officially confirmed that Page Managers should not include links within a post's caption.

It seems Facebook has officially confirmed what many have known (or assumed): that you should not include links within your post’s caption. Instead, they are touting adding a link to your first comment.

Where does this confirmation come from? Many started noticing a recommendation within their Page’s Insights for Facebook Pages:

Now, even though Meta is recommending against including links within your posts’ caption, it seems that you can still publish link posts (without being penalized, that is). This means that so long as you’re publishing that regular link card, you shouldn’t see the above recommendation to remove any link. The main thing to keep in mind is not including links in the caption.

Here’s the good news about either scenario: Social News Desk offers ways to do both! This means you can easily schedule Facebook link posts or Facebook media posts with a scheduled link (did you hear that? scheduled) within the comments.

Here’s what each might look like:

Facebook media post – with link in comments:

The scheduled link is obviously great for taking care of your post in one sitting, not needing to remember to go back within the post later. This could especially come in handy for publishers now that we also know this interesting tidbit from Meta: According to their latest “Widely Viewed Content Report,” about 97% of all post views on Facebook (in the U.S.) go to updates that don’t include a link to a source outside of that app.

All this to say: we think it’s definitely worth experimenting with links in Facebook post comments, and just regular link posts. Good thing SND makes both super easy!
