Facebook is testing a new product focused on amplifying local news coverage and local events. It’s called “Today In…” and will first appear for users in six cities: New Orleans, LA; Little Rock, AR; Billings, MT; Peoria, IL; Olympia, WA; and Binghamton, NY. According to Facebook, the “Today In…” page isn’t designed to replace publishers’ presence in the News Feed but is instead intended to be an additional place for users to discover your content.

The section will include not only local news, but also events, groups and community updates. Facebook’s Local News Partnerships team says that the goal is to “facilitate meaningful connections” and connect people to their local community. If you’re in one of the six test cities, you will likely start seeing the “Today In…” page by the end of January.
